Grenoble, France –  Imagina International, a management software publisher and leading IT company, and  ATIM Radiocommunication, a company specializing in Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, recently announced their successful partnership for the implementation of innovative devices to detect water leaks in the underground networks of the Compagnie de Chauffage de Grenoble (CCIAG).

This promising project promises to revolutionize water management in the region, helping not only to prevent water losses, but also to achieve substantial savings.

The findings :

As a supplier of district heating (2nd largest heating network in France, 5 production sites, 100,000 housing equivalents), the CCIAG relies heavily on its water distribution networks to supply its systems. However, water leaks in these networks can lead to inefficient use of resources, high repair costs and, consequently, higher tariffs for consumers. The Imagina International – Atim project aims to solve these problems by using state-of-the-art technologies to proactively monitor and detect water leaks.

The solution proposed by Imagina international and Atim :

The heart of the project lies in the integration of state-of-the-art IoT sensors into the CCIAG water distribution network. These non-intrusive sensors, which require no installation work, are designed to continuously monitor any water leaks or infiltrations at strategic points in the network. Thanks to real-time analysis of the data collected and a dedicated algorithm, CCIAG teams will be able to quickly identify any anomalies or potential water leaks. The system’s intelligence and the different probes on each sensor enable it to dissociate temperatures, rainwater infiltration, small leaks and larger leaks, and thus alert network managers appropriately.

In addition, the project will integrate artificial intelligence (AI) systems to predict and prevent leaks based on historical data and network behavior models. This proactive approach will identify potential problems before they become costly emergencies.

The implementation of this cutting-edge technology offers many benefits to CCIAG and the people of Grenoble. Firstly, it will significantly reduce water losses, resulting in substantial financial savings for the company and, ultimately, more stable rates for consumers.

The project will also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing the waste of water, a precious resource. Fewer leaks also mean less pressure on local water resources.

Finally, Grenoble residents will benefit from a more reliable service, with fewer breakdowns and interruptions due to emergency repairs. This will improve the quality of life in the city and reinforce CCIAG’s reputation as a provider of quality district heating services.

Future prospects…

The Imagina International – Atim project is a shining example of how technology can be put to work for the environment, operational efficiency and financial savings. While the initial deployment is planned for Grenoble, it also offers a replicable model for other cities and utilities around the world.

As this technology matures and expands, it will help transform water resource management, while placing Grenoble at the forefront of innovation in this field. Partnerships such as the one between Imagina International and Atim are essential to shaping a sustainable and intelligent future for our cities and infrastructures.
