Heat Wave in France: Cities Confront the Climate Emergency

Heat waves kill.
And recent figures in France serve as a stark reminder of this.

Since the start of this heat wave, France has already seen an alarming rise in mortality : nearly 1,000 more deaths than usual have been recorded over the course of just a few days.

At the same time, hospitals are seeing a surge in heat-related emergency room visits: dehydration, fainting spells, heatstroke, and worsening of existing medical conditions…

Faced with these extreme events, cities can no longer simply endure the heat.

They must identify it. Measure it. Map it.

And take action where residents are most at risk.
